About Me
Philine's Crafts and Designs is a home based business to provide custom products. My homeland is in Wit'at, I was born and raised in Burns Lake, BC. I take care and time to provide the best service I can to provide my products. I ensure that each product is made as designed.
My products are the best quality, anything less is not up to my standards. If I wouldn't use it, I won't sell it. I do my best to ensure I keep a stock on hand, but am willing to make orders for larger orders.
I am Indigenous and enjoy crafting, which is why I made it my business to create products. I do what I can to bring my culture and history into my designs. My logo is a drawing of Babine Lake near Wit'at, with a fishing rod to showing our yearly cultural winter harvest of fish.
I began making crafts at a young age. I spent time with my two grandmothers and they showed me the beginnings of crafting.
My grandma Elizabeth Tom was a very strong woman and I miss her everyday. My fondest memory is visiting her and she was working on knitting some socks. Usually I go off and play but I was intrigued by what she was doing so I sat beside her. She began showing me how to to do the knitting stitch. Soon enough she handed it to me and I tried my best to follow her instructions. Once I did one stitch right she picked up another project. When it was time to go I was handing her the sock back and the stitches did not look anything like what she had. She said "Keep it, you practice." I gave her a hug and took the sock home. To this day I still have it, unfinished. I went on to learn to knit and crochet because of her influence. My grandma is a huge inspiration to start my business.
My grandma Rosie West is another inspiration for my business. I remember growing up I was asking my mom for pillows for my barbie dolls and something else. My grandma would bring her sewing machine in and she sewed me some cute little pillows for my barbies. It was then I learned what sewing was.
I spent time with both grandmothers and learned a lot. They built the foundation of my creative journey to begin my business. I am eternally grateful for both of their gifts throughout the years that consisted of sewing machines and yarn.
